Being behind the camera in one of the big movie studios – in reality Luke Shannon, played the magnificent Buster Keaton, is a simple street photographer offering cheap portraits for ten pennies. Then, he chances on true love – Marceline Day who is pushed and shoved to his side by the milling crowd during a street parade. While thousands of handbills glide down on them in a lovely sequence, we can guess that the path to happiness will be crooked. The Cameraman is a masterpiece in cinematic history. The last in a series of brilliant movies Keaton produced in the 1920ies, it is his very own aesthetic statement: It is about cinema, about telling stories in unforgettable moving pictures. Zerorchestra from Italy is an ensemble which emerged in the milieu of the Pordenone Silent Film Festival; they create new soundtracks for silent movies. The Camerman marked the beginning, in 1995, of the continuing successful cooperation between pianist Bruno Cesselli and his colleagues.
