New works by Karl Naegelen, Frédéric Pattar, Roméo Monteiro
We came to know Roméo Monteiro in 2016, when he set Ondřej Adámek’s fascinating Airmachine into motion in virtuoso style at the Domenig Steinhaus. This year, the French composer, electro-acoustics specialist and drummer is the Artist in Residence of the Carinthian Summer Festival himself. He brings to the Domenig Steinhaus the Spat‘sonore ensemble, which already played the Musiques Démesurées Festival in Clermont-Ferrand, the Theater des Bouffes du Nord in Paris, the Århus Jazz Festival or the legendary Berlin club Berghain this year. Spat‘sonore is devoted to the spatialisation of music, i.e. the exact projection of sound in space. However, their special feature is that they do not use digital means but newly built mechanical musical instrument-machines, composed of classic horns, the bells of trumpets, tubes, integrated percussion instruments and the like. The “Spats” are space-occupying fantastic miracles custom-built for the respective space. They seem to be fresh out of an alchemist’s lab. The audience can sit down on cushions underneath them and experience a unique sound cloud.
Roméo Monteiro is the Artist in Residence 2017 of the cooperation partners Carinthian Summer Festival and Domenig Steinhaus.
A conversation with the Artist in Residence of the Carinthian Summer Festival of 2017, Roméo Monteiro, will be held at the Domenig Steinhaus at the beginning of the concert.
