Piano Sonata No. 21 C major op. 53 Waldstein
Sonata in F major op. 10 No. 2
Piano Sonata No. 23 in F-minor op. 57 Appassionata
Explorating Beethoven’s piano works still amazes me. In preparation for my performances, when studying the scores, surprising things always jump out at me. Even pieces I have performed hundreds of times, I always read like a novelty, says Rudolf Buchbinder. Ludwig van Beethoven’s piano music is a central theme in Buchbinder’s life. In his impressive career, spanning more than 60 years, he has dedicated himself to the composer’s work with passion, scientific meticulousness and artistic mastery. He has performed Beethoven’s complete piano sonata works many times. For Beethoven’s Year, he draws his personal synthesis of this matured examination with a selection of the most beautiful and popular sonatas: the Pathétique, the Waldstein Sonata and the Appassionata, as well as the F Major Sonata from op. 10.
