The premiere of the new church film-opera by Johannes Kalitzke will take place under the direction of the composer in concert at the Congress Center Villach, to fire the starting gun in anticipation of its realisation in scenic form in the coming festival year 2021. For several years, Johannes Kalitzke has lent the focus his work on music to masterpieces of expressionist silent film. He is also one of the most sought-after conductors of contemporary music.
The librettist Kristine Tornquist extends Carl Theodor Dreyer’s silent film classic from 1928 with short scene interludes that reflect the historical narrative, which asks timeless questions of identity and rebellion.
