Georg Friedrich Händel: Nine German Arias HWV 202–210 for soprano, melody instrument and basso continuo Margareta Ferek-Petric: New compositions for chamber ensemble and organ (world premiere)
Earthly Pleasure in God, a collection of poems by Barthold Heinrich Brockes, was Handel’s inspiration to compose some of his most beautiful arias. They bring out deeply interiorised joy about the splendour of creation as the mirror image of God in the most enchanting way. The versatile soprano and experienced Händel performer Cornelia Horak, who is also involved in the performance of Alexander’s Feast with Barucco on 21 July, will sing the Nine German Arias in a recital conducted by Klaus Kuchling, the Klagenfurt Cathedral organist. The arias will alternate with original performances of new compositions for chamber music ensemble and organ by Margareta Ferek-Petric. The Croatia-born Viennese composer is this year’s Artist in Residence, her residency being supported by cooperation between the Carinthian Summer Festival and the Domenig Steinhaus.
