What would it sound like if all Carinthian choirs were singing together and all Carinthian brass bands were playing together? July 14th, 2016 will see the grand opening of the  Carinthian Summer Music Festival on Lake Ossiacher See – both on the water and on the shore. Hundreds of singers and musicians will express their passion for choral singing and brass music, producing sounds the likes of which you have never heard before. You are in for a surprise as you listen to brass band aboard ships on the lake, percussion sections on pontoons on the water, and the voices of many choirs joining in from the Bodensdorf lakeside. Even the volunteer firefighters will make music with whatever produces sound – this is the way the Carinthians celebrate the opening of their Carinthian Summer Music Festival.
As early as in 1660 music for wind instruments was played on board boats cruising Lake Wörthersee to entertain Emperor Leopold I. Händel staged his Water Music for King George I. with wind instruments galore on the River Thames. Renald Deppe composed a new Water Music for the opening event; musical elements playfully refer to each other like the parts of a mobile. The interaction between the ships slowly gliding along on the water and the music in a marvellous landscape is irresistible – this has not changed a bit over the centuries.

Observation points for the audience are located on the lakesides at Ossiach and Bodensdorf.
With support by Gemeinde Ossiach, Gemeinde Steindorf Bodensdorf, Kärntner Landesfeuerwehrverband.
