Wolfgang Rihm: Fremde Szene III for violin, violoncello and piano (1984)
Robert Schumann: Study for the pedalpiano op. 56/4 (arr. Theodor Kirchner) (1888)
Johannes Brahms: Trio for piano, violin and violoncello no. 1 B major op. 8 (1889)

Johannes Brahms engaged with the B major trio throughout his entire artistic life. He wrote it a few months after his fateful encounter with Robert and Clara Schumann in January 1854, but then completely revised it in 1889; it was to be his last piano trio. Schumann’s outstanding talent shines brightly in his trio op. 110, which Brahms heard on the occasion of one of the first visits he paid to the Schumann family. Wolfgang Rihm’s Fremde Szenen, interpolated between two works by Schumann, reflect on the composer’s predecessors Schumann and Brahms.
The Viennese Altenberg Trio, which has been in existence since 1994, will play in its new line-up, featuring the young Chinese-Austrian violinist Ziyu He. The Altenberg Trio is well known for the top-notch quality and intensity in music.
